Duxbury Art Association’s Midsummer Art Show 2016

Art by the Bay, the Duxbury Art Association’s Midsummer Art Show takes place on August 6-7 celebrating almost a century of its member’s creative endeavors. The show features a weekend full of art, children’s activities, an artists’ artwork bin sale, the boatshed gallery cocktail party with an awards ceremony, a wet paint art auction, Duxbury Bay oysters, hearty hors d’oeuvres, live music and breezes by the bay.

ELIGIBILITY:

Entry is open to all 2016-2017 Duxbury Art Association, (DAA), members. Membership applications will be available at registration or online at www.duxburyart.org. Membership runs from June 1, 2016 to May 31, 2017.

REGISTRATION DATES, TIMES & LOCATION:

All artwork will be delivered to the Ellison Center at 64 St. George St. (All artwork will be transported by DAA trained volunteers to the Boatshed at the Duxbury Bay Maritime School for display.)

Artwork Registration is at the DUXBURY ART ASSOCIATION at the ELLISON CENTER

Tuesday, July 26                                            1:00pm – 4:00pm

Wednesday, July 27                                     6:00pm – 8:00pm      

Thursday, July 28                                          10:00am – 1:00pm

Absolutely no entries will be accepted after 1:00pm on Thursday due to Jurying. Please plan accordingly.

SPECIFICATIONS:

Adults: Adults may enter up to two, (2) pieces of original artwork. The entry fee is $10 per piece. Work may be entered provided it has not been exhibited in a previous DAA show: Midsummer, Winter Juried or DAA Gallery exhibition at The Ellison Center in the past.

2D Requirements: All work must not be larger than 48″ X 48″, (due to panel width constraints), and be securely framed. Clip-on frames or saw tooth hangers are not allowed. All work must be ready for hanging with a wire on back. We cannot accept wet artwork. Please plan ahead. 

3D Requirements: Sculpture must be accompanied by a pedestal. The DAA is not able to arrange for any special lighting, hanging or display needs. Pieces requiring special lighting or window hanging may not be accepted as we do not have the facilities to accommodate such requirements.

YOUNG ARTISTS: Ages 0-18 years of age.

NO FEES! Show your childrens’ artwork  for free!

Artwork must be original, not larger than 48″ x 48″. Work may be entered provided it has not been previously exhibited in a DAA show, (Midsummer, Winter Juried, Young Artist, or a gallery exhibition at The Ellison Center).

Artwork is not required to be framed! We will be tacking work to walls. 

Young Artists may enter works in either category:

  • Crafts/Three-Dimensional

AWARDS: 

Prize money will be awarded as follows: 

Adults:                        

$300 for Best in Show

$75 for first place in each category. Ribbons will be awarded for first, second, and third place and for honorable mention in all categories. If there are not sufficient entries in a specific category, prizes will not be awarded in that area. 

First, second and third place adult winners will also receive one complimentary ticket to the BOATSHED GALLERY COCKTAIL PARTY on the evening of August 6. Additional tickets are $35 per person purchased in advance, $40 at the door. 

Adult 1st, 2nd & 3rd place prize winning entries will be displayed in the Bengtz & Cutler Galleries beginning August 18 through September 2016.

 Young Artists:

 Young Artist’s work will not be judged; all work will be displayed.

A ribbon & a special treat will be awarded to each Young Artist in all categories at the close of the show at artwork pickup. 

ARTWORK PICK-UP: 

Adults & Young Artists:

Non-Award Winning Artwork must be picked up on Sunday, August 7th between 1:00pm and 2:00pm IN THE BOATSHED AT DBMS; 457 Washington Street, Duxbury, MA. Please mark you calendar. No reminder will be sent. If someone other than the artist will be picking up the artwork, a written permission slip from the artist is required. After August 7th, a transport and storage fee of $10 per piece, per day will be charged for all artwork. Artwork left over 30 days becomes the property of the DAA.

Award winning artwork transport: Adult 1st, 2nd & 3rd place & Honorable Mention prize winning entries will be displayed in the Bengtz & Cutler Galleries at the ECA beginning August 22 through September2016. Help in transporting work to the Ellison Center is welcome.

Free activity for kids & adults!  Register your child for their free Fish Print t-shirt!  They can print a one of a kind fish print on their very own t-shirt supplied by us and underwritten by many generous families & businesses!  Adults can play around with some cool paper fish prints, too!

BOATSHED GALLERY COCKTAIL PARTY:
