About Us

Our History

Founded in 1917, the Duxbury Art Association is one of the oldest arts organizations in the country. Our mission to help local art and artisans thrive was set forth by our founders, great artists Charles Bittinger, John Singer Sargent, and Frank Benson.

Today, our home is at The Ellison Center for the Arts. The building underwent a total renovation in 1996 to provide studio, gallery and office space for the DAA and South Shore Conservatory. A capital campaign raised over $3 million to complete the renovation and building addition.

This space is now a hub providing South Shore residents access to quality art education, exhibits and special events. Throughout the year, students come to The Ellison Center for instruction, exhibitions and performances in the visual arts, music, dance and dramatic arts.
